Jamaican Economy is a free-market economy. The Jamaican economy is heavily dependent on services, which account for more than 60% of GDP. Tourism and bauxite and alumina production dominates Jamaica's economy. Jamaica's other industries include oil refining, sugar and tobacco processing, flour milling, and the production of rum, metal, paper, chemicals, and telecommunications equipment. Remittances from Jamaicans working abroad are also a major source of income. The major exportable commodities of the country are alumina, bauxite, sugar, bananas, and rum. The major importable items of the country are machinery and transport equipment, construction materials, food, chemicals, and fertilizers.
