Publish Date : 27-Jan-2015

Seeking to ensure transparency and fast-track the tendering process, the Odisha State Medical Corporation (OSMC) has launched an e-tendering and e-procurement process for the procurement of drugs and equipments for Government hospitals. Relevant officials of the Corporation and other bidders and stakeholders and have been trained to use the facility.

After introducing the system, Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, said : "The OSMC will ensure timely procurement of quality medicines, surgical and EIF (equipment instrument and furniture) centrally adhering to a fair, transparent, competitive tendering process for all Government hospitals and medical colleges."

OSMC's MD Roopa Mishra said : "One of the main advantages of the new move will be that the name of companies participating in the tendering process, as well as their details will be available online. Moreover, all the companies and their bids will become accountable. Supply of quality products from qualified manufacturers can be ensured."

Mishra added that nearly 370 varieties of key medicines of all sorts of diseases, including of cancer, would be purchased through e-tendering process and would be given to patients at all Government hospitals beginning from CHC to the medical college level under the Free Medicine Distribution Scheme that the Government has announced recently. The corporation's primary functions would be timely purchase of quality medicines, surgical and instrument and furniture, handling 39 dug warehouses in the State to ensure smooth flow of supply to health facilities via a centralised online inventory management system, apart from purchase and maintenance of medical equipment across health facilities.
