Singapore : LTA seeks tender from private bus operators to operate five city bus services

Publish Date : 10-Feb-2015

On Monday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) called for a tender inviting private bus operators to submit their cost proposals for operating five bus services to and from the Central Business District (CBD) from the heartlands during peak hours. According to LTA, with this, residents in Marsiling and Woodlands, Pasir Ris, Tampines East and Simei, Yew Tee and Yishun will have additional options facilitating their daily commute to and from the CBD during morning and evening peak periods, when the five new City Direct Services (CDS) start progressively from the second quarter of 2015. Following the tendering procedure, the most cost-efficient operator or operators will be able to win the rights to operate the services. Successful operators will be required to have bus service licences from the Public Transport Council (PTC), which regulates bus services.

The two new CDS serving Marsiling and Woodlands and Yishun will be operating three one-way trips on weekday mornings from the respective housing estates towards the CBD and in the evenings two return trips from the CBD. The other three new CDS will be operating two one-way trips on weekday mornings towards the CBD and two return trips from the CBD in the evenings.

Addition of more trips will be done with the increase in demand for the services. The bus services will be operated on weekday peak periods excluding public holidays. Additional details will be made available nearing the implementation dates. Following introduction of five additional CDS, the total number of such services will be increased to 15. At present there are 10 CDS which serves Jurong West, Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok and Hillview, Sengkang, West Coast, Sembawang, Jurong East, Eunos, Bedok and Hougang.
