Kenya : IFMIS commences electronic procurement platform on pilot basis

Publish Date : 10-Feb-2015

The Integrated Financial Management Information System department under the National Treasury has commenced piloting an electronic procurement platform, with set up beginning in 19 state corporations during the initial phase. By August, the IFMIS e-procurement system is expected to be fully functional which would result in strengthening efficiency, transparency as well as reduce corruption.

According to IFMIS director Jerome Ochieng, by June, installation of the system will be done in the 19 agencies before introducing the same to other state corporations.

Ochieng says a survey carried out on parastatals' existing procurement systems indicates that nearly 50% of them makes use of manual and labour-intensive measures, which are much time-consuming and can be highly manipulated. Nearly 30 per cent of the state agencies have partially automated procurement systems. Only around 14 per cent had fully automated the purchase procedures.
