Publish Date : 03-Mar-2015

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has decided to build the P50.11 billion regional prison facilities through the public-private partnership (PPP) program.

According to the DOJ, by month-end, the official invitation to interested bidders for the country's first prison PPP project will be issued, and then a conference is scheduled on March 20 to present the project to interested groups.

The contract for the PPP project includes the financing, detailed design and construction, and maintenance of the prison facility, to be located in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija. Main objective of this project is to decongest the National Bilibid Prison, having nearly 20,000 inmates.

Justice Secretary Leila De Lima, said, “It is the first major PPP project of DOJ and the Bureau of Corrections and also the first of its kind in the country.”
