India : MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM & NATURAL GAS forms Steering Committee to identify equipments and products to be built locally

The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has established a Steering Committee made up of the members drawn from the Ministry of Petroleum, Ministry of Commerce, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, various Oil PSUs and representatives from FICCI, CII and AOGO. The committee is working to identify equipments and products in the sector which can be built locally.
The Steering Committee has identified certain practical areas in short term (1 year) and medium term (3 years).
These actionable areas include : (a) Suitable changes in the public procurement rules to mandate aggregation of requirement and domestic content as purchase criteria as a short term initiative; (b) An indigenization goal of 50% in the upstream sector in the medium term; (c) Establishing dedicated production zones/clusters catering to oil field services like ship building, offshore platforms and rigs in the medium term. The Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan informed this to the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
