Turkey : 9 bidders voice interest in TURKEY's effort to acquire aircraft SOJ capabilities

Publish Date : 27-Mar-2015

Turkey's procurement agency has announced that 9 prospective bidders have expressed their interest in the country's effort to acquire aircraft stand-off jammer (SOJ) capabilities.

The Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) said 9 Turkish and global companies received copies of a request for information (RfI) potentially to partipate in the critical program. The potential bidders are pan-European Airbus Defence & Space Miliary Aircraft; Turkey-based Aselsan; Turkish company Duygu Havacilik Ve Savunma Sanayi Ticaret; a joint venture between the Turkish company Esen Sistem and US company Sierra Nevada Corp.; Turkish firm Ortadogu Muhendislik Insaat Savunma Teknolojileri Sanayi Yazilim Ve Ticaret; Turkey's Probil Bilgi Islem Destek ve Danismanlik Sanayi ve Ticaret; Turkey-based Savronik; Selex ES, part of Italy's Finmeccanica; and Tempus Applied Solutions, Williamsburg, Virginia.

Industry sources say the new SOJ program would cost Turkey around $200 million. SSM earlier initiated a parallel program to purchase similar systems, although a local Turkish firm has entered talks with foreign plane makers to build an SOJ system. Called Golge ("shadow" in Turkish), the new SOJ program, involves "production, delivery and acceptance of the systems; installation and integration of mission equipment into the systems; construction of barracks and buildings; test and assessment of the systems; maintenance, repairs, technical support, spare parts; supply of ground support equipment and their spare parts and overall training."
