India : NTPC to change procurement process, develops PAN-INDIA database of approved vendors

India's Central Public Sector Undertaking, NTPC, has announced it has started enlisting contractors and suppliers to procure materials and work contracts.
NTPC , which so far has been sourcing spares or services from suppliers closer to power facilities through tenders, will change the procurement process by developing a pan-India database of approved suppliers.
NTPC regional executive director (South) R. Venkateswaran said, "We have to buy a lot of spares and avail services of many agencies for maintaining and operating our power plants. Every year, we use approximately Rs2,000 crore worth spares and `1,600 crore worth services across all our plants."
He added, "From now on, tender notices will be sent to only the enlisted agencies. And they can participate in tenders across India."
