India : NTPC, State utilities sign PPA for procurement of solar power

Publish Date : 27-Apr-2015

NTPC and utilities of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh have entered a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the purchase of solar power from the 250 MW plant — Phase I of the 1,000 MW ultra solar project — being established by the central PSU in Anantapur district.

The PPA was inked between NTPC, Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company (APEPDCL) and Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL).

Director (commercial) of NTPC, IJ Kapoor, said, the EPC contract for the first phase of 250 MW will soon be offered.

The state distribution companies (discoms) have fixed the purchase price at Rs 6.14 per unit for a period of 25 years.

The PSU had inked an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop the 1,000 MW project.

Kapoor added, "Power generation cost may further come down with regard to the remaining 750 MW capacity as that portion of the project would be undertaken through global bidding unlike in the first phase where only domestic vendors were involved."
