The Japanese government has inaugurated a Sh7.8 million project for the delivery of water to over 30,000 residents of Karadolo village, Siaya county, Kenya.

Over the launch of the project in Mulambo Primary School, Ambassador Tatsushi Terada stated that the 6.5km piping will be connected to the nearby Mauna Dam.

He informed that the project was selected out of the over 440 put forward in 2014 and the initiative was proposed by Mulambo Self-help Group, which sourced the funding so that children do not walk long distances in search of water.

Mauna Dam is set to deliver water to over 30,000 residents.

“It is underutilised as only 60% of the locals receive water due to lack of piping,” he said, “Toilets will be built to improve sanitation.”

The launch of the project was also witnessed by the envoy was with Governor Cornel Rasanga, Water executive Sarah Ondego and county commissioner Caroline Onchonka.

Rasanga while praising the project, stated that, “It will help prevent waterborne diseases.”
