India : METRO RAIL announces tender to build HQ in Nandanam

Publish Date : 21-May-2015

Metro Rail will be constructing its main headquarters in Nandanam, as it is all set to start services on Koyambedu-Alandur route.

A tender has been announced by Metro Rail for selection of a contractor to construct a cluster of buildings, tallest of which is going to comprise a ground floor with nine stories.

At present, the offices of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) carry out operations from a steel and glass structure recently opened at Koyambedu.

The new headquarters will be called “Metro Bhavan” and will have a network of three structures on the eight-acre land, which used to be Poultry Research Centre affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.

"We have floated a tender to identify a contractor with experience in building such structures for the government. The tender will be opened next month. Once work is awarded, the contractor is expected to complete the buildings in 24 months," a senior official of CMRL said.

Location of the headquarters will be near Nandanam underground station on Anna Salai.

A senior Metro Rail official said, “We will need a bigger space because we have to take into consideration plans of future expansion. As the state government is keen to expand metro rail, more corridors will be added to the existing network. So, the cluster of buildings will be designed to accommodate future needs.”
