France,United Kingdom : ALSTOM secured a new contract from BWSC for GRT Supply a 45MW biomass project in THE UK

Publish Date : 22-May-2015

Alstom has made an announcement on its receipt of an order from Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC) to supply a geared reaction steam turbine (GRT) for the new 45MW Tilbury biomass project in the United Kingdom.

BWSC jointly with Aalborg Energie Technik has been involved in the development of the waste wood power plant on the River Thames close to the capital city London, which is likely to be commissioned in July 2017.

It is expected that the Tilbury biomass plant will have annual electricity production capacity of 300 GWh, sufficient energy to meet the power needs of about 80,000 households.

The waste wood power station is likely to consume almost 285,000 tonnes of waste wood per year.

Alstom will use one of its specialist facilities to make the project specific design, engineering and manufacturing with support from the company’s team in the UK.

Alstom VP (Industrial Steam Turbines) Daniel Wahler stated, “This is our fifth contract with BWSC in the UK, all for different sized turbines, showing the advantages of our modular offering to ensure we can offer the customer a GRT turbine that suits the specific requirements.”

The company in early 2015 had inked contracts with the Danish BWSC for delivering turbines of 23MW and 50MW for projects to be set up respectively in Widnes and Snetterton.
