United Kingdom : CEO - HEATHROW expansion to allow Govt. to deliver U.K.'s long-term economic plan

Publish Date : 08-Jul-2015

In his maiden speech since the Airports Commission's clear suggestion for Heathrow expansion, Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye will announce that Heathrow expansion will allow the Government to deliver Britain's long-term economic plan, that the airport is starting to move swiftly into the delivery phase and that the debate on where a new runway should be constructed has been firmly closed now.

The expansion of Heathrow will create up to Ł211bn of economic development and 190,000 new British jobs across the country – the first wave of which will come from the planning and development of a further runway and new terminals.

Addressing participants of the Runways UK conference, Mr Holland-Kaye will say that the airport will now start to develop a complete procurement strategy for the Ł15.6 billion in private investment that will provide new hub airport capacity for Britain. The strategy will be centered around developing skills, generating jobs and promoting growth across the whole of Britian – ensuring that SMEs across the country have the confidence and the support they require to access Heathrow's supply chain.

Mr Holland-Kaye will say that work will start immediately, with the creation of a Procurement Forum with representatives from various sectors and experiences and from across various regions who will work with Heathrow to champion and challenge the procurement strategy of the airport's expansion. The forum will aim to ensure that Heathrow has the right strategy in place to deliver Heathrow expansion both on time and on budget, whilst also considering the wider implications of other key programmes underway, and the supply chain opportunities for growth across the U.K.
