United States : TRI-STATE settled a 25-year contract for new 30MW Solar Power Project

Westminster-based Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, the state's second largest power generator behind Xcel Energy, on Tuesday has made an announcement regarding its signing of a 25-year agreement on a solar farm close to Trinidad for the expansion of its presence in the renewable energy space. The entity supplies electricity to rural electric cooperatives.

Tri-State has further revealed that it will procure the whole production of the 30- MW San Isabel Solar Project over the life of the contract. The facility, which will be developed by a German renewable energy firm, is likely to become operational in the last quarter of 2016. The San Isabel Solar Project will be set up Juwi Inc., which its U.S. H.Q. in Boulder.

According to a media statement, the solar farm venture will have over 100,000 solar panels, and the project covering an area of 250 acres is located at 20 miles north of Trinidad in Las Animas County.
The project comes within the service region of the San Isabel Electric Association, a member of Tri-State, and it covers seven counties in southern Colorado, added the statement.

So far in 2015, Tri-State has settled two deals in the renewable energy space, including the cooperatives newest one. It declared its first contract for this year having a 25-year term in June for the procurement of wind power from Iberdrola Renewables' Twin Buttes II Wind Project south of Lamar.

Tri-State's SVP (Energy Management) Brad Nebergall revealed, "We have taken a steady, deliberate approach to integrating renewable resources, and it has paid off over time as we continue to build a generation fleet that remains cost-effective for our member systems."
