The Minister has stressed that the public sector general insurance company is one of the pioneering players to implement the Universal Health Insurance Programme of the Union Government and a number of other schemes across numerous States in the country.

The State Government has planned the scheme in order to deliver better quality medical care, hospitalization and surgery facilities in hospitals across public and private sectors.

Minister DSouza revealed, The scheme will cover the 15 lakh population of Goa, which includes three lakh families. Before finalizing the scheme the government is working out the modalities, including effective benefit of this scheme to the people.

According to him, there has been delay to finalize the insurance scheme.

The maximum insurance cover for a family of up to three members has been set at Rs 2.5 lakh per year, while a family of at least four members will be given a coverage of as much as Rs 4 lakh per annum.

Goa Medical College, plus a pair of district hospitals and the Ponda-based sub-district hospital will be included in the Phase 1 of the project, with plans to cover the state-wide government-run hospitals, subject to the discretion of the Government of Goa, in the later phase.

The insurance scheme will also cover the privately owned healthcare service providers, offering hospitalization and/or daycare services.
