Italy,Romania : ASTALDI bagged deal to construct motorway in ROMANIA worth EUR 100M

Italian contractor Astaldi, as scheduled part of a joint venture (JV), has bagged a 100 million deal to develop of motorway in Romania.

The deal is 18km of the BrasovOradea portion of the partially constructed A3 Autostrade, a 584km route that runs north to south, from the border with Hungary to the capital Bucharest.

Astalsis design and construction work comprise of 3 viaducts, 5 overpasses, 3 flyovers, and 1 motorway interchange. Work will start in May and will go on for 16 months.

Work on the Brasov-Oradea section also called as the Transylvania Motorway, has been dogged by deal and fiscal disputes for over a decade.

The complete portion was natively slated to be constructed by the American firm Bechtel Corporation with Enka of Turkey.

The deal was awarded in 2004 but without an open bidding process.Expense increased from 2.8 billion in 2003 to an evaluated 4.7 billion till 2007 estimate.

Bechtels work has since then been minimized.

Three-quarters of the expense for Astaldis pact is coming from European funds and the rest 25% by the federal government.
