Korea Republic of : KORAIL to finalize deal on new high-speed train purchase with HYUNDAI ROTEM

Korail, the national railroad operator in South Korea, has decided to place an order with Hyundai Rotem for the procurement of a new fleet of trains.
As part of this deal, Hyundai Rotem will be responsible for delivering a fleet of 30 HEMU-250 trains to be operated on the new Gyeongjeon line to Masan in the southern part of the country from the year 2020.
Korail has selected the company for the new trains as part of its tenders for a fleet of high-speed trains, which was issued in last November.
The Korean operator, however, had withdrawn the tender on two occasions over its failure to settle on the terms with the suppliers.
The contract worth Won 102bn ($US 86m) for the 250km/h trains is slated to be finalized in the current week.
