Publish Date : 24-Jun-2016

The Association of Laguna Food Processors (ALAFOP) received a food processing facility under the Shared Service Facility (SSF) Project of the Department of Trade and Industry.

The facility, dubbed the Calabarzon Food Solutions Hub (CFoSH), was acquired at a cost of PHP 16-million. It consists of advanced processing machineries (planetary and cone mixers, pressure cooker, vacuum fryer, pasteurizer, juice extractor, oven, spray dryer, filling machine, packing machine) and other ancillary equipment (blast freezers, weighing scales, metal detectors, label printers, tables, and shelves) installed at the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) in Santa Cruz, Laguna.

DTI Secretary Adrian S. Cristobal led the launching ceremonies held Friday, June 10.

Regional Director Marilou Quinco-Toledo stated the CFoSH, to be operated under a shared system, will greatly improve the productivity and quality of products, and will increase the level of competitiveness thereby boosting the chances of Lagunas home-grown producers to gain access to the world market.

During the fiscal years 2013-2014, Calabarzon was allocated with a total of Php150-million for the procurement of machineries, equipment, and process technologies for the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) to level-up and access better and wider markets, and consequently to become part of the global supply chain.

Director Susan Palo of DTI-Laguna said the CFoSH is a shared project of the DTI -IVA, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-IV A) and the Laguna State Polytechnic University in Santa Cruz, and ALAFOP.

The SSF Project is a convergence of government resources and is implemented nationwide. Its partners as co-operators are non-government and peoples organizations; cooperatives; industry, trade, and business associations; local government units; state universities, colleges, technical vocational schools; and other similar government and training institutions.
