Indonesia : Ahok signs into law pergub for Govt. to move forward on traffic control system's construction

Publish Date : 26-Jul-2016

As Jakarta sinks further and further into a sea of endless rush hour traffic each day, state officials have announced that the new odd-even rule, which will start a one-month testing period this Wednesday, would help relieve some of the macet.

However, what everybody is really pinning will help Jakarta solve its traffic issues are two longer term solutions - the mass rapid transit system (MRT) and an electronic road pricing system (ERP).

But the MRT won't start operating until at least 2019, and it seems that the ERP is stuck in a macet made of bureaucratic and logistical issues.

But, today represents a key step towards turning the ERP into reality, as Governor Ahok has now passed into law the governor's order (pergub) required for the government to legally move aheadd on the official construction on the traffic control system.

One of the things the recently signed pergub allows is for the government to being the tender process on who will build the ERP, and the governor wants to get started right away.

Ahok said, "The tender should be held this week. Hopefully tomorrow or the day after we will be able to hold the tender."
