Publish Date : 28-Jul-2016

Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) on Monday morning has announced that the Board of Directors of Amtrak is likely to carry out a voting procedure this week to approve the settlement of negotiations with Alstom to procure new Next Generation High-Speed trains from the France-based globally acclaimed transportation firm for the Acela Express service of Amtrak.

The service forms a component of an ambitious program worth $2.5 billion of the Washington-headquartered railroad service provider.

It is anticipated that the new deal will facilitate generation of more than 750 jobs, comprising 400 jobs straight from Alstoms location in Hornell, and another 350 or more across the US State of New York at the subcontracting companies.

Schumer has stated that clearances for the final federal financing have been received with his support, paving the way for Amtrak to complete an agreement with Alstom.

U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer disclosed, Amtrak and Alstom signing on the dotted line is the final stop in this long journey to bring hundreds of good paying jobs to the economically struggling Southern Tier.

He further said, This contract is a win-win-win that will improve rail safety, bring jobs to Upstate New York, and improve the Amtrak experience for passengers along the entire Northeast Corridor.

The Alstom officials, however, have refrained from divulging the details of the deal taking the sensitive nature of the pending agreement into account.

The Alstom Communications Director forNorth America Pete Barkey stated, We are not at liberty to comment on any details around this procurement.

The Hornell Mayor Shawn Hogan hopes that the Amtrak Board of Directors will hold a meeting on Tuesday or on Wednesday for a final assessment and vote on the terms of the deal.

Alstoms existing employee fleet in Hornell comprises almost 600 people, and more than 1,000 staff in the Upstate NY.
