Publish Date : 31-Aug-2016

GEORGE KENT (MALAYSIA) BERHAD ("George Kent") is pleased to announce that George Kent, together with its joint venture partner, China Communications Construction Company Limited ("CCCC"), have today accepted the award by Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd of the System Work Package valued at RM1,007,288,168.00 for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) Line ("MRT SSP Line").

The MRT SSP Line is 52.2 km in length with a total of 37 stations, 11 of which are underground. This Line will stretch from Sungei Buloh to Putrajaya, and will include Sri Damansara, Kepong, Batu, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, KLCC, Tun Razak Exchange, Kuchai Lama, Seri Kembangan and Cyberjaya.

The System Work Package comprises Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Testing and Commissioning of Trackworks, Maintenance Vehicles and Work Trains for the MRT SSP Line. The contract for this work package is expected to be completed by 1 May 2022.

The contract is not expected to have significant effect on the earnings of the George Kent Group for the current financial year ending 31 January 2017, but is expected to contribute positively to the future earnings of the GKM Group overthe duration period of the contract.

Known for proven engineering excellence, George Kent has a strong track record of successfully completing high value projects - on-time and on-budget - in the water and other infrastructure sectors including healthcare and rail transportation sectors. The winning of the System Works Package contract marks the third major rail transportation project for George Kent since 2012 when it was appointed as systems works contractor for the RM1.1 billion Ampang Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line extension project. In September 2015, another George Kent joint venture was awarded as the Project Delivery Partner for the RM9.0 billion Light Rail Transit Line 3, a 36km line from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia.
