Publish Date : 23-Jan-2017

At the hospital in Gander, Health and Community Services Minister John Haggie announced funding of over $4 million for medical equipment for Central Health, across the region.

Of that amount, more than $2 million will be used to procure equipment for the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre.

In Gander, the money will be used for the procurement of a vast range of equipmentfrom operating tables to a portable ultrasound.

The minister spoke to a group of health care experts who were there for the announcement.

He said, "These are investments to ensure the facilities are maintained and equipped to provide the highest quality services to folk in the area"

He added, "Our government is committed and Im committed to ensure you have the tools and equipment to do the job. It's going to be a challenge, quite frankly, particularly this year from a financial perspective to find money and wherewithal but Im hopeful we will be able to do what we can to do that."

Welcoming the announcement, CEO of Central Health Rosemarie Goodyear, said, "Technology is always changing and advancing, so it really is a challenge for us to keep up. But this, especially with the new equipment for our operating room, will certainly bring us to the place of having the very best when it comes to equipment we need for those services."

Assigned to Central Health, the $4 million is part of a provincial commitment of $23.4 million dollars for capital equipment funding.
