Australia : New funding for Palliative Care Tasmania

The Hodgman Liberal Government has consistently been a strong supporter of providing high quality end of life care for Tasmanians.
I am pleased to announce that the State Government will provide $81,314 in additional Better Access to Palliative Care project funding that will support the service to continue until the end of 2017.
The work of Palliative Care Tasmania is so important, not only to the individual in their last moments but also their families in providing a caring, supportive environment.
This additional funding will allow Palliative Care Tasmania to run two End of Life Care projects focused on staff training and the development of care support models.
We are also close to finalising our policy framework - Compassionate Communities: A Tasmanian Palliative Care Policy Framework 2017-2021.
This is set for release in the very near future and will reflect a more contemporary, inclusive approach to palliative care.
When we came to Government we made a commitment to look at the unmet need and future demand of palliative care services in the state.
It is therefore important to once again point out that there has been no reduction or cuts to any state funded palliative care services.
A range of public palliative care services continue to be offered around the State, including inpatient services at the Melwood Unit in Launceston and the Whittle Ward in Hobart, in various rural palliative care suites and through the Specialist Palliative Care Service.
I am very impressed with the quality of Tasmanian palliative care health professionals and the depth of their commitment to patients and families going through a difficult time.
The Hodgman Government is committed to ensuring Tasmanians receive the best health care and this includes end of life care for individuals and their families.
