Jordan : WAJ launches tender process for 30 MW PV projects in Jordan

Publish Date : 19-Jan-2018

The Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) has released two invitations for prequalification for the selection of developers keen to develop 30 MW of PV capacity at two of its water stations.

The prequalification and tendering process for both tenders is being funded with the proceeds of a grant from the EU Delegation, managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

One of the two tenders would help the WAJ develop a 6 MW solar power plant at its Zara Main Water Station. The deal requires to design, build, operate and maintain the solar facility, while the time for completion of work is eight months, followed by a 60 month operation and maintenance period. The last date to submit prequalification documents is February 20, 2018.

Another tender will be released to build a 24 MW solar plant at the Disi aquifer, where WAJ is developing the Disi Water Conveyance Project, a water supply project that is designed to pump 100,000,000 cubic metres to Amman, the countrys capital city. The contract has the same conditions and deadline as the tender for the 6 MW project.

Both projects are designed to be used for water pumping at the two water plants.

EBRD started seeking the project consultants in early 2017. German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) is also providing support to the WAJ to improv the energy efficiency of its water pumping stations.
