Publish Date : 21-Feb-2018

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the government of Sierra Leone have signed a USD 110 million agreement for the Kambia-Tomparie-Kamakwie Road construction.

The USD 134.60 million project is co-financed by the Saudi Fund contributing USD 20 million, while the government of Sierra Leone will contribute USD 4.6 million. The road aims to enhance connectivity for farmers and boost employment generation. It would specifically improve socioeconomic activities in Kambia and Bombali Districts.

The signing ceremony took place at the IsDB headquarters in Jeddah. Mr. Sayed Aqa, Vice President Administration, signed the agreement on behalf of IsDB, while Finance Minister, Mr. Momodou Kargo, represented Sierra Leone.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, IsDB Vice President Sayed Aqa stated, "Development agenda doesn't change. It is about changing people's lives. We have signed the agreement at the right time when the bank is reforming itself and working to be closer to its clients."

In his remarks, Sierra Leone's Finance Minister, Mr. Momodou Kargo added that the Kambia-Tomparie-Kamakwie Road is very important for Sierra Leone because it will promote regional integration by linking up with the Republic of Guinea.

"We are also focusing on reviving agriculture, especially rice production. We are working with neighbouring countries and the Ecowas community to ensure that we have sustainable rice production. This is an area where we want to partner with IsDB Group." The finance minister stated.
