Afghanistan News

The economy of Afghanistan has improved significantly due to the infusion of international assistance, the recovery of the agricultural sector, and service sector growth. Agriculture and Service Sectors are the major factors responsible for economic growth in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is endowed with natural resources, including extensive deposits of natural gas, petroleum, coal, copper, chromite, talc, barites, sulfur, lead, zinc, iron ore, salt, and precious and semiprecious stones. Although opium poppy cultivation and processing are not part of the official economy, they are widely recognized as the most important economic activities in Afghanistan. Opium, fruits and nuts, handwoven carpets, wool, cotton, lambskins (Karakul), and gemstones are the main exports: capital goods, foodstuffs, textiles and other manufactured goods, and petroleum products are the main imports.
