Indian Railway to float Global Tender To procure 300 lightweight Aluminium Coaches.

A sigh of relief for Indian rail passengers, as the existing rail coaches are to be replaced by Spanish luxurious coaches very soon. As over-saturated main routes were posing a great challenge for the development of Indian railways, the ministry is firming up its decision to procure 300 lightweight aluminium coaches from the market that have an advantage of being faster, efficient and cost-effective. Encouraged with a successful trial of the Talgo train, the ministry has decided to procure more such trains that are fast and cost- effective.
The procurement is to be undertaken under the “Raftaar Mission,” initiated by the railway minister Mr Suresh Prabhu to increase the train speed on the existing line in the shortest possible time as well as freight services significantly. Under this initiative, the national transporter is looking for Aluminium coaches as an easy option to increase the train speed at the shortest possible time on the existing routes. According to senior officials of the Railway Authority, procurement of these coaches would save up to 1 crore on each coach besides will save up to 30% of electricity consumed by the Indian trains.

A Global Railway tender will shortly be floated, with this Aluminium coaches are to become the new future of the Indian railway. As the railways will go for lightweight material for a faster journey on existing tracks. When asked, whether these coaches will be from Talgo? the officials said procurement will be through the open tendering process in which companies from all around the globe can participate. The Ministry is examining every aspect before taking a decision to float a global tender for this railway procurement.

With Railway aim to expand, modernise and improve in efficiency, investments in railways are expected to boost. Demand for Railway Tenders from India is about to surge. Large scale Railway tenders are expected to be floated to give a boost to railway infrastructure. International tenders are floated to bring in foreign technology into Indian railway system and encourage foreign participation. Government tenders are initiated reflecting opportunities for investment into most of the segments of the railway infrastructure such as coaches, transmission lines, manufacturing, signalling system etc. Local Government Railway tenders, State Government Railway tenders are floated for the domestic manufacturing industries to benefit from the Government public procurement opportunities.Moreover, with technology driving growth, online tenders are published through government tender portals or railway tender portals for companies to participate. International funding agencies have shown keen interest to finance railway projects in India. Opportunities for Investment are to rebound in railways with large development to be underway.
