France has started a procurement round for 120MW of solar energy. The newest auction is for installations from 100kW to 250kW in size. Projects are judged not just on price but also by their potential of reducing carbon.

The new capacity will be initiated in 3 batches of 40MW with each batch available for a duration of 4 months after consultation between the government and the industry. The first period starts on 22nd May 2015 and the 3rd and final block will close on 20th May 2016. A revised methodology to evaluate the affect of projects on decreasing carbon has also been put in place, again due to a feedback from within the industry.

The initial deadline for bids is 21st September 2015. A tender for 400MW of projects over 250kW in size was released in November last year. France is eying a 23% share of renewable energy by 2020. The country now has what will soon be the largest PV power plant in Europe in the works, a 300MW behemoth in the south-west of the country.
