The People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducted an open bidding on Thursday for the procurement of 35 pieces of equipment in Shijiazhuang, capital city of Hebei Province. The PLA General Armament Department said over 20 bidders, including private businesses participated.

This is the first time that the PLA military weapon purchase website, weain.mil.cn, was used for competitive bidding, since its launch in January. The department has issued items for tender which includes containers for maintenance supplies and weapon kits, since the website was launched.

The items issued for tender were worth around 90 million yuan (14.53 million US dollars). The bidding on Thursday was reviewed by panelists selected randomly from a database, to guarantee fairness and transparency. The PLA will publish the results on the website at a later date.
