The Govenment has taken steps to appoint a panel made up of former expert government officers to present plans to make the state procurement procedure more fruitful and effective enabling to use expenditure of public funds economically and to stop frauds, corruption and irregularities from happening.
A Large amount from the state annual expenditure is spent on the procurement of various goods and services needed for public like constructions under various development programs, buying of capital goods, pharmaceuticals, fertilizer subsidy, textbooks and uniforms for students.
The procurement is done in line with the state procurement procedure and some lapses in that procedure has resulted in delays and disadvantages on the government.
The cabinet has approved the above proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena to appoint a committee.
