Zimbabwe : ZIMTRADE - 45 local firms register with UNDP's procurement division
Publish Date : 15-Sep-2015
CEO of ZimTrade, Sithembile Pilime, has announced that a total of 45 local firms have registered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)'s procurement division to provide various goods and services. According to the UNDP, only 20 Zimbabwe-based firms were registered to provide goods under the UN system.
Speaking to participants during the inaugural United Nations Procurement Division (UNPD) vendor briefing and registration seminar in Bulawayo on Friday, Pilime said 25 more companies have joined the program.
She said, "We now have a total of 45 registered companies that have registered with the United Nations Development Programme's procurement division for the supply of goods, services and other essentials." She noted that the seminar was meant to offer a chance for more companies that are eligible to find a ready and reliable export market for their products.
She added, "The seminar comes at an opportune time when the country is looking at ways of reducing the trade deficit which has continued to widen. Total exports during the first half of 2015 were $1.23 billion, having registered a small increase of 0.39 percent compared to the same period in 2014. Total imports for the same period in 2015 were $3.1 billion, having increased by 2.3 percent compared to the same period in 2014."
