Australia : $24 Million tender let for Wadeye Police Station project

Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister Senator Nigel Scullion is proud to support the Northern Territory Government with almost $24 million in funding for a new Police Station in Wadeye. This project will provide improved infrastructure in Wadeye which will support the Northern Territory Police Fire and Emergency Service in achieving a safer community, Minister Scullion said. The Federal Government is proud to be funding these vital works.

The Northern Territory Government was responsible for the tender process and the Northern Territory Police and Infrastructure Minister Peter Chandler congratulates NT company Sitzler that has been awarded the contract to design and construct the new station. The new police station will include a multi-purpose room, communications tower, boat shed, general, two storey eight unit Visiting Officers Quarters and a four bedroom house, Minister Chandler said. Its an extensive piece of work but one which is much needed in the community. Stage five of the project involves the construction of nine four bedroom houses and two three bedroom houses.

The aim is to complete the project in late 2017. Local Member Gary Higgins said he was delighted the project was closer to starting.Wadeye residents have been keen to see this project underway and its great also that there will be opportunities for local employment with the build, Minister Higgins said.This is a project which will be a highlight of activity for the community and result in some much needed public infrastructure.
