Recent tender for 850 MW of wind power in Morocco has attracted bids of about MAD 300 (USD 30 /EUR 28) per MWh on average, said the Minister of Energy, Abdelkader Amara, during a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
In consortium with Moroccan Nareva Holding and Siemens Wind Power AS, Italys Enel Green Power SpA secured the contract. However, an announcement by the government in December did not reveal the exact price of the bid.
During the sixth assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) held over the weekend, Amara said that the kingdom has achieved something of a world record in wind energy pricing citing its excellent conditions for wind power development, in terms of natural resource as well as state policy.
By 2020, the country has a target of achieving a 42% share of renewables in the total electricity generation capacity, further lifting the goal to 52% by 2030.
