Publish Date : 22-Jan-2010
State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara or PLN will soon call a tender for the construction of third unit of the Asahan hydro power plant in North Sumatra. We will soon call a tender to get the lowest possible project cost. Some have said if the project is left to the private sector it will cost less than US$400 million,\" PLN President Director said.
He said if the private sector could keep down the project cost to US$350 million PLN would not necessary seek US$420 million loans from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa said early this week PLN would build the power plant with a capacity of 2x87 megawatts on its own.
The JBIC loans will carry an interest rate of 0.7 percent with a grace period of 40 years. Dahlan said the third unit of the Asahan hydro power plant was not part of the second phase of the construction of power plants with a combined capacity of 10,000 megawatts.
