Australia: The Bligh Government Has Appointed Abigroup as The Managing Contractor
Publish Date : 30-Jan-2010
Deputy Premier and Health Minister will officially announce Abigroup as the successful tender. The move comes as German construction and engineering giant Bilfinger Berger is planning to list its Australian operations, including Abigroup, on the ASX under a share offer worth up to $1.5 billion. The project, due to open in 2014, will combine the Royal Children\'s and Mater Children\'s hospitals into one facility at South Brisbane. Floor plans for the new hospital are expected to be unveiled later this year.
The main building will consist of 11 levels, with 75,000 square metres of floor space, and an additional four levels of basement parking. Deputy Premier and Health Minister said the new hospital would have 359 beds _ 71 more than the combined total of the Mater and Royal Children\'s hospitals. He said the new facility represented \"the largest capital investment in children\'s health services in this state\'s history\'\'. It will include new obesity and pain clinics, as well as a renal treatment centre. The QCH caused a bitter division within the medical profession in the leadup to last year\'s Match state election but tensions appear to have eased.
