United Kingdom : Interserve wins second contract from Department for Education in Manchester

Publish Date : 18-Nov-2019

Interserve Group Limited, the international support services, construction and equipment group, has been selected by the Department for Education (DfE) to design and build Halcyon Way, a special education needs school for children in Oldham, Greater Manchester. This is the second special education needs school Interserve Construction has been selected to build in Manchester after winning the 8m contract to deliver Prospect House. In the past 10 months Interserve Construction has been awarded more than 15 new school build projects worth more than 106m.

Interserve will create a facility for pupils with a range of specialist needs at Halcyon Way, which will provide places for 152 pupils, aged four to eleven, of which 12 will be early-years places. The 3,231 square metre new build will be delivered using latest mixed reality technology, and will include a two-storey building, external play areas and car parking facilities. The facilities will include a range of therapy and sensory spaces. Interserve will commence work on design and planning over the next few months.

Interserve has successfully delivered education construction projects in primary, secondary, tertiary and higher education facilities. This project adds to its portfolio in this sector, having recently been awarded contracts to deliver similar projects in Manchester, Hereford, Peterborough, Middlesbrough and Sheffield. Interserves partnership with the DfE aligns with its construction strategy to target attractive, risk-adjusted returns in the sectors where it has a market leading customer proposition, including education, health and local authority framework projects.

Phil Shaw, Divisional Director at Interserve Construction, said: Across the education sector, our experience ranges from the delivery of primary and secondary schools through to university buildings. We have completed projects throughout the UK from the refurbishment and extension of existing facilities to the construction of brand new campuses. Working in partnership with the DfE, Interserve creates and cares for school and community facilities throughout the UK. Our primary aim at Halcyon Way is to provide a learning environment which inspires pupils and allow teaching staff to focus fully on the delivery of education.
