Cape Verde : Government and United Nations System in Cape Verde sign 2020 Joint Work Plan

Within the scope of the implementation of the United Nations Framework for Cooperation for Sustainable Development - UNDAF (2018-2022), the Government and the United Nations System accredited in Praia signed on the 20th of the current month, at the Palace of Communities, the Plan 2020 Joint Work Program, budgeted at US $ 17.5 million, for the implementation of projects aimed at the sustainable development of Cape Verde.
The signing ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities, Lus Filipe Tavares and by the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Cape Verde, Ana Graca. It should be noted that this is the third Joint Work Plan and encompasses five major areas, namely: People, Planet, Peace, Prosperity and Partnerships.
Speaking to the press, Minister Lus Filipe Tavares assured that the Government will do everything to implement and execute all projects related to the year 2020 and also emphasized the importance of this agreement and the level of cooperation between the country and the United Nations System in Cabo green. The 2020 Joint Work Plan will be an increasingly better plan and the Government will focus its efforts on areas of institutional reinforcement, said the Cape Verdean government official.
The head of the Cape Verdean Diplomacy said that with regard to the development of the country, the United Nations System in Cape Verde has been making a strong contribution to institutional reforms, translating into a country with strong institutions and a promising future.
For her part, the United Nations Resident Coordinator said that the plan stands out for strengthening the institutional and operational capacities of State institutions, civil society, public and central decision makers and the private sector, with regard to performance and implementing efficient measures capable of reinforcing Cape Verde's sustainable development and its human capital.
According to Ana Graa, the 2020 plan aims to respond efficiently to the country's priorities in its development process, promoting cooperation that leverages the objectives of Sustainable Development (SDG).
Furthermore, he called for greater transparency in the coordination of partnerships for sustainable development, stressing that the amount made available represents a financial effort by fifteen United Nations agencies in Cape Verde, with emphasis on Luxembourg Cooperation and the European Union.
