Chile : MINSAL and MOP announce call for tenders for 11 new hospitals during 2020

The group of the new establishments will provide 2,200 new beds to the public health network, in addition to standards of care that will provide greater resolution and safety capacity in the care of users of the health system.

The tender for the works of eleven new hospitals during the current year, announced the assistant secretary of Assistive Networks, Arturo Ziga, after meeting with the Minister (s) of Public Works, Cristbal Leturia. The group of new establishments will provide 2,200 new beds to the public health network, in addition to standards of care that will provide greater resolution and safety in the care of users of the health system.

We must be in constant communication for the elaboration of our Investment Plan that President Piera has committed and that is why, together with the Ministry of Public Works, we are calling for the tender of 11 new hospitals for the country which will be developed to through the modality of private public association, said the Undersecretary of Assistance Networks. Along the same lines, the Minister (s) of Public Works, Cristbal Leturia, stressed the importance of the different portfolios working together to give concrete solutions to people's problems.

This is a process that is already underway. It began in December of the year 2019 and these new hospitals mean 2,200 new beds which will be distributed throughout the national territory and each one of them has the objective of being a contribution to the hospital network of the country, said the authority.

The hospitals that will be called to tender during 2020 are: Santa Brbara, Nacimiento, Coronel and Lota (Biobo Network); Coquimbo (Coquimbo); the Union, Rio Bueno and the Lakes (Red Valdivia), of La Serena and the National Cancer Institute and Buin, in the Metropolitan Region.

Opening of new hospitals
Along with the call for tenders for eleven new hospitals by 2020, the Assistant Secretary of Healthcare Networks also reported the commissioning of 5 of the new hospitals in the Health Investment Plan between April and June.

The objective is to have the capabilities of these enclosures, prior to the beginning of winter, in response to the demand for respiratory diseases regarding the Coronavirus Health Alert COVID-19, and seasonal Influenza.

As a health care network we have prepared ourselves in case this becomes a pandemic. Yesterday the World Health Organization (WHO) pointed out that the risk that this happens is quite high and that is why we are going to use all the elements that the health alert allows us to have these hospitals before the beginning of winter, he said Undersecretary Zuniga.

In this regard, he added that "there are 1,700 beds that will be available before this winter, which is when we anticipate that the greatest number of infections can occur due to the conditions that winter delivers for the spread of viruses." These are the hospitals: Flix Bulnes in the Metropolitan Region; Ovalle in Coquimbo; Gustavo Fricke in Via del Mar, Father Las Casas and Angol in La Araucana.
