Spain : Adif tenders the renovation of the Getafe tunnel for an amount exceeding 8.83 M

Publish Date : 03-Mar-2020

The objective of this action is to attenuate the vibrations when passing the trains and with it the conditions generated to nearby homes. The contract includes the implementation of a new superstructure of track in plate, as well as the installation of rigid catenary, which facilitate maintenance work.

The Board of Directors of Adif has approved the tender, for 8,832,427.21 euros (VAT included), of the contract for the renovation of the floating slab, the superstructure and electrification of the Getafe tunnel, on line C-4 of the Outskirts of Madrid.

The objective of this action, included in the Comprehensive Plan for the Improvement of the Outskirts Services of Madrid (2018-2015), is to reduce the vibrations when passing trains and with it the effects generated to nearby homes. The work will last three months, during two of which it will be necessary to cut the circulation through the tunnel. This line has an average of 800 weekly circulations.

Main actions
Adif will implement a new plate track superstructure on the existing infrastructure (concrete slab on tunnel counter-vault) in order to attenuate the vibration peaks. Among the various systems studied to achieve this objective, the floating slab was chosen on discrete supports, since by concentrating the mass on different supports, the insulation is increased. In addition, they offer the lowest vibration threshold frequency (5-12 Hz).

The selected superstructure will consist of the implantation of the plate track system with a naughty bibloque. This new superstructure will be implanted over the existing one, which will mean an elevation of the grade. To avoid compromising the vertical gauge of the existing catenary in the tunnel, a rigid catenary will be installed, which allows the gauge to be reduced up to 60 cm. In addition, the rigid catenary has a greater ease of assembly, facilitates maintenance tasks and has a great current transport capacity.
