Poland : NEWAG contracted to supply 21 electric multiple-units

Newag has secured a contract from suburban operator SKM Warszawa to supply 21 electric multiple-units by November 30, 2022.
This contract mainly covers 15 trainsets between 85 and 95 m in length and six between 70 and 77 m long, to be used to increase capacity on SKMs network, with ridership having increased 16.5% year-on-year to reach nearly 2205 million passengers in 2019.
These EMUs will feature air-conditioning, CCTV, a modern passenger information system, ticket vending machines, wi-fi, USB charging points and a defibrillator, and will be accessible for passengers with reduced mobility.
Newag's bid for the contract is of 6679m zloty, which covers a 48-month warranty period, staff training and seven years of maintenance.
Alan Beroud, President of the SKM management board said, "Today we can officially confirm that Newag will provide new vehicles." The tender requirements included a minimum annual turnover of 50m zloty, delivery of at least eight EMUs at least 70 m long in the last five years and experience of the provision of support services.
