Adif and the Spanish Railway Association (Mafex) have signed a collaboration agreement to promote, support and encourage internationalization and innovation within the Spanish railway sector.

Mafex, which has been operating since 2004, is a non-profit entity, whose main objective is to defend the general interests of the sector and its associates. Its mission is to promote the competitiveness of companies through activities related to internationalization and innovation. Currently, it represents 92 companies in the industry, which accumulate 80% of the country's railway exports and invoice 16,000 million euros annually.

For its part, Adif has spent years supporting the internationalization of the Spanish railway sector and improving the competitiveness of Spanish companies, through, among others, the participation of its experts in projects and visits organized by industry companies with third-party entities. countries. Adif's collaboration in activities that promote and catalyze the internationalization of Spanish industry is one of the objectives reflected in its International Strategy.

Although Adif and Mafex have been collaborating on a regular basis in the search and development of new business opportunities for companies, the signing of this agreement seeks to strengthen the bases of even closer cooperation, organizing activities that support internationalization and promoting initiatives in innovation. All this with the common objective of promoting the competitive improvement of the Spanish business railway sector, which in Spain generates more than 25,000 jobs, and up to 400,000 throughout Europe.

The value of rail public transport

From Mafex, its president, Víctor Ruiz, values ​​in a very positive way the agreement reached “especially in an exceptional moment like the current one”. In order to "seek maximum future support and coordination, it will be essential to further promote public-private collaboration, which especially incorporates SMEs." But, in addition, the Association also stresses the idea of ​​collaboration to “transfer confidence to the public in favor of the use of public rail transport, which is playing and should play a key role in the future to facilitate sustainable mobility. and safe of people and merchandise in our country ”.

For her part, the president of Adif, Isabel Pardo de Vera, has indicated that this agreement must serve to "improve the quality of the railway service provided to citizens through public promotion of the sector", especially "at a time when which is of vital importance to generate the maximum confidence in the safety and reliability of the railroad on the part of the citizens ”.

Therefore, both presidents agree that "we must all contribute to achieving maximum support for our rail transport, which is, without a doubt, a benchmark worldwide."
