Finland : Kouvola-Kotka / Hamina railway project: Kotka's Kotolahti yard railway extension contract will start in May

Publish Date : 28-May-2020

The Finnish Rail Administration signed an agreement with the contractor responsible for the extension of the Kotolahti yard track, NRC Group Finland , on 14 May 2020. Work will begin immediately.

The Kotolahti railway yard will be expanded with five new tracks with switches, and safety equipment, electric track and high-current work related to the expansion will be carried out in the contracts that will start later. The purpose of the extension is to promote the functionality and safety of the Port of Hamina-Kotka. The port is Finland's largest port for general, container, export and transit traffic, so ensuring the smooth flow of transport is very important for the business community.

“The contractor will start work in Kotolahti immediately. The first is the removal of humus and vegetation, as well as the installation of a few new electric track foundations. In June, switches will be installed and in July, the crushing, sleeping and railing of the tracks will begin. Cable routes should be ready by the end of July. Walkways and finishing work will complete the contract during the autumn, ” says Miia Kari , the project manager of the project, about the progress of the contract.

The Kotolahti contract also includes safety equipment, electric track and high-current work

Support structures and a gear heating system will be installed in the electric track contract. The commissioning of the safety devices will take place in the autumn of 2021. The contractor selection process for these contracts is still ongoing.

The total contract for the Kotolahti railway yard is scheduled for completion by the end of 2021.
