Czech Republic: CEZ and AES Pull Out of Kosovo Power Plant Tender

Czech utility CEZ and its partner AES will not take part in a revamped tender to build a power plant in Kosovo because the terms of the offer changed and the plan was significantly delayed, CEZ said. Kosovo, which suffers chronic power shortages, is seeking investors for the 1,000 megawatt plant it expects will cost 700 million to 1 billion euro.
In 2006, the government launched a bigger project but scuttled the plan last November due to lack of interest among investors who had demanded better terms. The government now plans to launch a tender for a plant with half the planned capacity.
