OMAN : Bids invited for $400m water project in Oman

The tender board has invited interested bidders for an independent water project in Oman to prequalify for the competitive bid process. The cost of the project is estimated at $400m.
The procurement of the Ghubrah IWP will be overseen by state-owned OPWP on behalf of the Public Authority for Electricity and Water. The tender will be floated for the license to develop, own, finance and operate the 42 million-gallon-per-day plant. The Ghubrah plant will be developed on the site of the existing Al Ghubrah Power Generation and Water Desalination Plant in Muscat Governorate. The plants procurement process is being advised by KPMG.
The operation of Phase 1 30 MIGD is scheduled to begin by May 2013. The second and final phase will be operational by April 2014. Under a long-term water purchase agreement, water produced from the facility will be acquired by OPWP.
