NIGERIA : FEC approves N33 billion contracts

The award of contracts in different sectors of the economy including petroleum, water resources, road infrastructure, erosion control as well as Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has been approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). These contracts are worth approximately N33 billion.
According to Labaran Maku, Minster of Information, ratification of Nigeria\'s accession to the convention relating to the Status of Statelessness Persons and the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness was also approved by the council. It also gave nod for the variation order for the upgrading of the hydropower components of the ongoing construction of Kashimbila Gamovo Multipurpose Dam in Taraba State in the sum of N17, 693, 609, 333, 15. It is expected to be completed in 36 months.
The official further added that this move was in line with government\'s policy of optimising hydropower generation. The power needs of a large part of Benue and Taraba states would be served by it. Remediation of sludge pits in Kaduna Refinery and petroleum company dump sites and the improvement of the lives of impacted communities were also approved by the council. The value of these projects is N1, 811 billion.
Under the ICT, FEC approved a memo by the Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson, for the award of contracts for the deployment of 100 classmate personal computers and accessories for schools for teaching purposes at the cost of about N6.4billion.
