AUSTRALIA : Raytheon gets $26 million deal for interim RAN aircrew training

Publish Date : 21-Sep-2011

Raytheon Australia received $26 million Retention and Motivation Initiative (RMI) deal. As per this 4-year deal, which will become effective from 2012, Raytheon Australia will offer three Bell 429 helicopters to keep and enlarge the skills of junior RAN aircrew. The company will support and preserve Bell 429s.The helicopters will fly about 1500 hours per year in service with RAN\'s 723 Squadron at Nowra, changing AgustaWestland AW109E Powers which Raytheon presently offers for RMI deal.

Materiel Jason Clare, Minister for Defense, said, “This is one way the Navy is making sure that pilots and aircrew are ready for the new (MH-60R) Romeo combat helicopters which will start arriving in 2014. Junior aircrew initially train in Squirrel helicopters. They will then move on to the Bell 429 to improve and maintain their skills.”

“We are very excited to be able to offer a new RMI solution that incorporates the latest generation of light twin helicopters. The Bell 429 was selected after an extensive trade study and we are confident it is the right helicopter,” said Michael Ward, Managing Director of Raytheon Australia.

Rayheon has also teamed with Bell Helicopter to offer the Bell 429 for the ADF’s Air 9000 Phase 7 Helicopter Aircrew Training Systems (HATS) project.
