Details INDIA : Ansaldo STS awarded Kolkata Metro contract

Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation has placed a Euros 46m contract with Ansaldo STS to design and install the train control, signaling and telecommunications systems for the new 14.5km East - West Line.
Work will begin next month and is due to be completed in early 2016. The line will connect Kolkata with Howrah on the west bank of the Hooghly River. It will be underground for 8.9km and elevated for 5.8km with 12 stations.
The line will pass through Ramrajatala and Saltlake Sector V linking the current metro corridor and will even consist of a linking point to new Joka-BBD Bag line.
Indian Railways has funded around $1.1 billion of the EWL project with major stakes and the balance amount is been availed as loan from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC). Trains will be equipped with air conditioners. Its underground stations will be having platform screen doors.
