Publish Date : 26-Sep-2011
A consortium made up of Brazilian companies Encalso, Engevix and Kallas has won the $193 million contract to renovate and expand Manaus–Eduardo Gomes International Airport.
The work on the Amazonas state gateway is expected to begin by the end of 2011 once a service order is signed, and will include the renovation and expansion of Terminal 1 to increase capacity and comfort for passengers. When the expansion is completed the terminal will have grown in size from 43,000sqm to 97,250sqm and be able to handle nine million passengers a year.
According to Infraero, two new gates will be built, bringing the total to eight as well as a number of new check-in counters, and a new baggage system. Rubem Ferreira Lima, superintendent of the Northwest Regional Infraero, said: \"The progress of the process emphasises the commitment of Infraero with users of Eduardo Gomes, seeking maximum transparency about the actions taken by the company.”
