SINGAPORE : Marubeni awarded EPC Contract for Biomass and Coal Power Plant

Marubeni Corporation (“Marubeni”) has been awarded USD 220 million EPC Contract for Biomass and Clean Coal Cogeneration Plant Stage 2A by TP Utilities Pte. Ltd. (“TPU”), a subsidiary of Tuas Power Ltd, which is one of the major power companies in Singapore.
In line with the plans of the Singapore government to develop the Tembusu area of Jurong Island into a new petrochemical sector, TPU is building an integrated utility complex to provide one-stop utility solutions to companies in the area. Based on its extensive experience in constructing cogeneration plants, Marubeni was awarded the EPC contract for Stage 1 of TPU’s Tembusu project in February 2010 which is currently underway and will be completed in 2012.
Stage 2A of the project comprise one CFB boiler with a capacity of 450t/hr, a 32.5MW turbine generator and another gas-fired boilers with a capacity of 200t/hr to TPU’s BMCC Cogeneration Plant. This new expansion project is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2014.
Director of TP Utilities Mr. Lim Kong Puay, who is also President and Chief Executive Officer of Tuas Power Ltd, said, “We forged a good working relationship with Marubeni while working on Stage 1 of our Tembusu project. The continuation of this relationship to the next stage will enable us to complete the project smoothly and successfully”.
Marubeni’s Executive Officer, Plant & Industrial Machinery Division Mr. Motoo Uchiyama said “For this important project, we will continue to be fully committed as the prime contractor, and fulfill our responsibility to successfully manage and execute the project.”
