BAHRAIN : Bahrain inked $132m utility deals

Bahrain\'s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has inked contracts worth BD50 million ($132.6 million) in order to develop services and attract foreign investments.
The deals cover the procurement of ductile iron pipes and fittings, the construction of a new forwarding station in Addur and the modification and addition of a new ground storage tank in West Riffa.
Panorama Contracting and Engineering Services, US Pipe and Foundary Company, A A Bin Hindi and Down Town Construction Company will handle the responsibility of the projects.
The officials said that the plans follow government directives to develop and strengthen the electricity and water transmission networks and aims to achieve the increasing demand from industrial, commercial and residential sectors.
The move is part of the Water Transmission Development Project 2009-2012, which involves the installation of water pipelines connecting the new Addur Power Station to distribution stations nation wide and the work is expected to be complete by late-2013 or early-2014.
